Executive Committee

Kolten Abbott - President

Hello Wollongong!

Born and raised in small town Ontario, Canada I used to spend my days in the lab researching traumatic brain injuries, and evenings in the arena getting beat up playing ice hockey. However, since moving to sunny Australia two years ago I’ve turned into a washed-up athlete, political junkie, and advocate of the dad bod.

As your President, my goal is ensure that your experience at UOW Graduate Medicine (both academic and non-academic) is the best it can be! If you can’t find me around the GM, I am sure you will hear me (Canadians tend to be loud) – if you're struggling with anything, especially your mental health, please don’t hesitate to pull me up or send me a message via FB or at president@wumss.org.au

Fiona GIPPS - Vice president (clinical)

Heya! I’m Fiona, and I’m super excited to be your Vice President (Clinical) for 2018/2019. I completed my undergrad in Exercise and Nutrition Science and decided to take the leap into medicine – and so glad I did. As your Vice President I want to make sure your experience, whether it be in an academic, clinical, social or sports domain, the best it can be. I’m keen to chat, hear ideas, help facilitate and work with the WUMSS team to make UOW medicine the best it can be. For fun, I love sports, eating excellent food, socialising with friends and patting golden retriever dogs. So if you’re keen to do any of those things, or just would like to have a coffee and chat – come hit me up!

Natasha Dobson - Vice president (pre-clinical)

Hey friends! My name is Tash and I am your Pre-clinical Vice-President for WUMSS 2018/19. I was born and raised in Toowoomba, Queensland, before moving to the big smoke (Brisbane) for my undergraduate. I completed a Bachelor of Vision Science before joining the rest of the amazing people in UOW medicine. I love running, playing sports, jamming to some music and eating chocolate. If you ever want to chat about anything, I am always down for a cup of tea and some chocolate.

alexander mills - treasurer

Hi there, I’m Alex, the 2018/2019 Treasurer for WUMSS. I am originally from Zimbabwe but moved to Australia a few years ago now. I studied Environmental Engineering at Newcastle before making the transition to medicine. As treasurer my job will be to manage funds for events and hopefully leave the WUMSS bank account in a better place when our time finishes. I am always happy for a chat and more than happy to discuss any issues so if you have any. I am looking forward to a great year in WUMSS with such a great team!

Ha-Vy Nguyen - Secretary

Hey I’m Ha-Vy! I come from the town of Bunbury which is roughly 160km south of Perth. I’m a pharmacist by day which perfectly complements my drug-dealing at night (just kidding..). As your secretary, I’m more involved in behind-the-scenes organization but feel free to contact me with any questions, queries or concerns, or just for some mad bants.

Bridie McKenzie - Sponsorship officer

My name is Bridie and I'm originally from South West Victoria, but have lived in Melbourne for the last 5 years. My undergrad was in Public Health, but my extracurricular passions lie in music, good food & puns. My main roles are ensuring good relations with our current sponsors and organising new sponsorship opportunities for the club. If you are interested in the role for next year or just want to have a chat about med/life/food whatever you want.

James dudas - Senior AMSA Representative

Hey! I’m James and I was born and raised in England before moving to the Sunshine Coast in Queensland 10 years ago. In my previous life, I studied biomedical science and worked as a barista, so I essentially run on coffee. In my position as AMSA Representative, I will be the voice connecting you to the national body for Australian medical students to ensure we can make the most of the fortunate positions we are in as medical students. I am always happy to meet up to discuss any ideas or concerns that you may have in regard to UOW AMSA.
