AMSA Representative

Responsible to:

WUMSS Executive and

AMSA Council and Executive

Position summary:

The AMSA Representative is responsible for communication between the AMSA Executive and WUMSS Executive and student body. The key mandate of AMSA is to connect, inform and represent all of the medical students across Australia and the AMSA Representative has the important role of facilitating this. 

Main duties and responsibilities:

Provide communication between WUMSS and the AMSA Executive by:

  • Informing Wollongong medical students of AMSA events, opportunities and initiatives 
  • Liaising between WUMSS Executive, AMSA Council and AMSA Executive
  • Advocating for Wollongong students at AMSA Council
  • Attending the three AMSA councils held in various locations throughout the year
  • Writing reports for AMSA Council on behalf of WUMSS 
  • Preparing submissions for AMSA publications on behalf of WUMSS
  • Organising and facilitating AMSA ThinkTanks and/or student surveys
  • Organising the Wollongong delegation team for AMSA Convention 
  • Reviewing, editing and voting on AMSA policies
  • Responding to regular emails and completing tasks for the AMSA National Coordinator
  • Being involved in AMSA related videoconferences or training webinars 
  • Promoting the social media presence of AMSA to Wollongong medical students 
  • Coordinating tasks and responsibilities with AMSA junior representative
  • Mentoring the incoming AMSA Representative regarding their roles and responsibilities during the official handover period at the end of the year


The AMSA Representative must have proficient knowledge in the following: 

  • The organization of AMSA including the roles and responsibilities of the AMSA Representative 
  • Current AMSA policies, events and national campaigns
  • The aims and vision of WUMSS
  • The WUMSS Constitution


The AMSA Representative must demonstrate the following skills: 

  • Organisational skills
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and non-verbally;
  • Time management skills, and the ability to meet schedules and deadlines.
  • Ability to work as part of a team of the AMSA Council and both the WUMSS Executive and Committee
