WUMSS Committee


2nd Phase representative 

Responsible to:

WUMSS Executive

Position summary:

The WUMSS phase 2 representative acts as a point of contact between students and GSM staff, lecturers and specialists. 

Main duties and responsibilities:

Direct contact between GSM and student body:

  • Attend phase 2 meetings to bring to the attention of the committee issues faced by the cohort and ideas on how these situations can be rectified
  • Report outcomes to the cohort
  • Support phase 1, 3 and 4 representatives
  • Consult frequently with other members of the WUMSS committee to help address any issues which may have arisen
  • Maintain frequent contact with phase 2 committee members in between meetings to raise concerns/ address issues which may arise
  • Handle day-to-day issues faced by the cohort
  • Encourage cohort cooperation and maintain harmony amongst stressed students


The phase 2 representative must have proficient knowledge in the following: 

  • Committee members, phase 2 chair and how to contact them
  • The Aims and vision of WUMSS;
  • The WUMSS Constitution; and,
  • Knowledge of when phase meetings are and how to access them


ThePhase 2 Representativemust demonstrate the following skills: 

  • Ability to work under stress and be able to effectively communicate with members of the phase 2 committee both verbally and non-verbally 
  • Team building;
  • Decision making skills;
  • Ability to communicate effective, both verbally and non-verbally;
  • Stress management skills; and,
  • Time management skills, and the ability to meet schedules and deadlines.

The Secretary must maintain strict confidentiality in performing their duties, as well as demonstrate the following attributes:

  • Be honest and trustworthy;
  • Be respectful;
  • Maintain a cool head under pressure
  • Possess cultural awareness and sensitivity;
  • Be flexible; and,
  • Demonstrate sound work ethic and commitment to WUMSS
