WUMSS Executive

Position summary:

The WUMSS Social Coordinators 2015-16 will represent UoW medical students; will sculpt and manage the 2016 WUMSS calendar; and, will plan, market and execute all WUMSS social events throughout the year.

Main duties and responsibilities:

Develop inter-campus, inter-cohort and extracurricular camaraderie through continuation of existing social functions and development of new social opportunities, by:

  • Timely development of the official WUMSS 2016 social calendar, from which other clubs are able to define their schedules;
     
  • Total social event management, including:
     
  • Planning the event
  • Budgeting (with Treasurer and President)
  • Inspecting Venues
  • Booking venues
  • Booking transport
  • Booking DJ/music
  • Ordering supplies
  • Catering
  • Marketing (in conjunction with publications officer)
  • Real time event management
  • Ticketing (in conjunction with IT officer)
  • Attending to staff and student queries
  • Liaison with GSM when appropriate
  • Event follow up
  • Rupture articles (advertisement for social events)
     

Major WUMSS events for continuation in 2016:

  • MEDCAMP
  • End of Phase 1/2/3 Party Support (in collaboration with year representatives)
  • End of Year 1 Party
  • End of Phase 4 conference week (NOT driven by Social Coordinators - driven by Phase 4)
  • Inspiration Lecture (NOT driven by Social Coordinators)
  • MED BALL
     

Major WUMSS events for review in 2016:

  • Scrub Crawl (We are no longer able to use scrubs or other outfits identifying us as medical personnel… Thinking caps on)

Minor WUMSS events for continuation in 2016:

  • Welcome BBQ
  • Participation in WUMSS committee meetings;
  • Contribution of relevant agenda items for each meeting;
  • Presentation of a social events report at the Annual General Meeting (AGM);
  • Mentor the incoming Social Coordinators regarding their roles and responsibilities during the official handover period at the end of the year;
  • Represent WUMSS and UoW medical students at GSM and University events and meetings;
  • Vote on resolutions at meetings; and,
  • Assist other WUMSS Executive and Committee members in other matters when required.

    Knowledge:

The Social Coordinator must have proficient knowledge in the following:

  • The Aims and vision of WUMSS;
  • The WUMSS Constitution;
  • The generous and valued sponsors of WUMSS; and,
  • How to host a kick ass party.

Skills:

The Social Coordinators must demonstrate the following skills:

  • Team building;
  • Analytical and problem solving skills;
  • Decision making skills;
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and non-verbally;
  • Operate word-processing programs (Microsoft Office Word, Adobe or Mac-based programs);
  • Stress management skills;
  • Time management skills, and the ability to meet schedules and deadlines; and,
  • Be able to balance an egg on a spoon whilst running competitively over 30m and back.

The Social Coordinator must maintain strict confidentiality in performing their duties, as well as demonstrate the following attributes:

  • Be honest and trustworthy;

  • Possess cultural awareness and sensitivity;
  • Be flexible;
  • Demonstrate sound work ethic; and,
  • Really want your colleagues to have a great time at med school.
